What Is Gluten?
Gluten is basically a general name for the proteins found in wheat, rye, and barley. It’s what gives bread its elasticity and chewy texture.
For people with gluten sensitivities, consuming foods that contain gluten can cause digestive problems like gas, bloating, and diarrhea.
What Makes A Burger Gluten Free?
In order to make a burger gluten free, you need to use a bun or bread that is gluten free.
There are many different brands of gluten free bread available at most supermarkets.
You can also make your own gluten free bun by using a recipe that is what I am going to describe later in this post.
How To Make Gluten Free Hamburger Patties? – Steps To Follow
Making gluten free hamburger patties is actually very easy! The main thing you need to do is to replace regular flour in your recipe with a gluten free all-purpose baking mix.
Following is the Step-By-Step Guideline on how to make gluten free hamburger patties at home:
Ingredients You’ll Need
- 1 pound ground beef.
- 1/2 cup gluten free bread crumbs or oatmeal.
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder.
- 1 teaspoon onion powder.
- Salt and pepper to taste.
In the first step, you have to gather all the ingredients mentioned above.
Now, measure ingredients accurately; follow recipe instructions precisely to ensure successful results.
Flatten ground meat in between wax paper using a rolling pin or glass bottle and fill it with burger stuffing of choice (cheese, onion ring, fried egg, bacon bits, etc.).
For ground meat, I would suggest you not to buy it from a local grocery store. If you want to get the best result, you should grind meat at home following the right way.
And, when you grind meat at home, you have to be utmost careful while using the right home use meat grinder.
Note: If you don’t have a meat grinder, then you can follow this Step-by-Step guide on grinding meat without a meat grinder machine.

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with the gluten free bread crumbs or oatmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
In this step, you have to use your hands gently to mix everything together until it is evenly combined.
Now, try your best to form the mixture into patties of about an inch wide and half an inch thick.
Next, wrap the meat/filling tightly around the mold using a sheet of plastic wrap and secure it well so the stuffing doesn’t come out.
It is now time to refrigerate the patties for at least 30 minutes so they firm up.
Next, preheat a griddle over medium-high heat and add some oil (or butter). If you don’t own a griddle, make sure you get a good quality griddle in order to get your desired result.
In this step, you need to cook patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, until nice and browned.
This way your homemade gluten free burger patty is ready.
So, these are the steps associated with easy gluten free hamburger recipes.
Free Tip: You can also cook your gluten free hamburger patties in a skillet on the stovetop.
Note: If you are interested in making a hamburger patty out of deer meat, you must get a good quality meat grinder for deer meat. This way you will be able to make the perfect homemade deer hamburger.

How To Make Gluten Free Burger Buns?
There are many different ways to make a gluten free burger bun. If you follow the right method, it will be easier for you.
The following is one easy way to make a gluten free bun at home:
Ingredients You’ll Need
- ¼ Cup Warm Water (110-degree F).
- 2 Teaspoons Dry Active Yeast.
- ½ Teaspoon Plus 1 Tablespoon Sugar, Divided.
- ½ Teaspoon Salt.
- ¾ Cups Warm Milk (110-degree F).
- 1 Egg (Beaten).
- 1 ½ Cups All-purpose Gluten Free Flour Mix Of Choice (I Like To Use Bob’s Red Mill GF Baking Flour Mix For This Recipe.)
- ¼ Cup Vital Wheat Gluten Flour.
Steps To Follow For Making Gluten Free Bun
In a small bowl, add yeast and ¼ cup water with ½ teaspoon of sugar. Mix well and set aside for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large bowl, add remaining water, milk, egg, and 1 tablespoon of sugar to the yeast mixture. Stir well with a whisk then gradually incorporate flour mix with the wet ingredients in the large bowl with a spoon until the dough starts to form.
Gradually add vital wheat gluten flour to the dough while kneading it together by hand until you get a soft dough that is not too sticky nor too hard to handle (If dough is too sticky to knead by hand, you can add a teaspoon or two of gluten-free flour until it’s no longer sticky!).
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size (about 1 hour)
After the dough has doubled in size, divide it into 12-16 portions (depending on how big you want your burger buns to be), shape them into balls, and place them on a greased baking sheet.
Let the burger buns rise for another 15-20 minutes until they become double in size.
Preheat your oven at 375-degree Fahrenheit and bake your gluten free hamburger buns for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown in color.
And, yes, your homemade gluten free burger bun is ready!

When forming the gluten free patties using your hands, make sure that you are being gentle with them because if not then they might break apart when cooking.
Similarly, while frying these patties do so on low-medium heat so that they don’t burn on the outside before they are cooked through.
